Upendo Mmoja - Tanzania Project
Upendo Mmoja was founded in March of 2012. The organization formed out of two existing groups in Pommerin, Tanzania: The Upendo Women's Craft Group and the Upendo Men's Carpentry Group.

Since 'upendo' means 'love' in Kiswahili, it was only fitting that the groups decided to unite under the name Upendo Mmoja - or 'One Love' to signify their commitment to working together towards their shared goals.  This governmentally-recogized Tanzanian NGO is the first of its kind, and has become an organizational cooperative model for other neighboring villages!

Global Community Initiatives, Inc., based out of Central Vermont, helps to support this grassroots initiative by organizing service trips and fundraising efforts for those wishing to help!
